The first USNG Store come into existence in 2012 as the result of a project Minnesota based 501(c)3 nonprofit SharedGeo was working on in Northern Minnesota. This 2025 complete rework and substantial upgrade of that site is a collaboration between SharedGeo and the U.S. National Gird Institute (USNGI).
SharedGeo's mission is to help government, nonprofit, education, and corporate entities use mapping technologies and share geographic data for the public good.
Income earned through this site is used by SharedGeo to develop additional USNG technologies and capabilities which are then made available to the public. These products and services are typically provided at no cost. A portion of the profits from this site will also be shared with USNGI to facilitate its mission.
Some products offered on this website, such as the USNG Emergency Location Marker (ELM) may appear simple in concept but they took several years to develop to ensure competing federal, state and local laws and regulations were addressed in the final product.
